Visit to Herstmonceux Primary School

Posted on:

On Friday morning, my apprentice, Lewis and I visited the Herstmonceux Primary School to tell the first class about Sussex Trugs that originated in their village. Lewis also shaved some chestnut and assembled a Trug so that the children had a good idea of what a Sussex Trug is. Modern technology allowed us to show photos from our website and we concluded by showing a video of Trug making back in the 1960’s that had been taken by Pathé News.

In the past, when our workshop was next door, Class 1 would come round the workshop for a tour and old Reg Saunders would delight them by swinging his draw knife around whilst he was showing them the shaving process.
it was good to be able to re-engage with the school and I sincerely hope we will be invited back for next year’s first year pupils.
