Decline in Trug Making?
Posted on:As a footnote to my recent post about the Association of Sussex Trug Basket Makers, the decline has essentially been caused by the introduction of cheap Chinese knock-offs of the real thing. There are several companies importing these and their introduction has decreased the “price point” that is expected of a Trug. However, we, for one, guarantee both our Royal Sussex Traditional and South Down Contemporary Trugs for five years, which is about five times as long as a Chinese copy will last with normal usage.
Personally I have found that our sales are increasing, probably because we are more customer focused than other Trug makers perhaps?
